An airless place in the sky

An airless place in the sky
A lonely world/with no moons nearby
A ball of rock
Sitting and rotating high

36 million miles from the sun
176 Earth days in one
This is a world called Mercury
To live there would not be fun

427*c and 800*F in the day
I would not want/to go out and play
Minus 183*c  and minus 300*F in the night
It does not seem okay

(Fast) An airless place in the sky
A lonely world/with no moons nearby
A ball of rock
Sitting and rotating high

(slower) The first/ probe to look straight at it
was Mariner 10-our vision was lit
No one can visit its surface
There is a light chance/ but I won’t have a fit

the time it takes for mercury to orbit the sun
Is a total of 88 days-its not a ton
Its not a place I would like to be on
the sun rises and sets in different ways not just one

Looking a lot like our moon
Like a very dented ballon
Its covered with craters/ 250 miles across
The place must look similar in June

(repeat chorous)

Few markings can be seen on mercury
Even large telescopes don’t see in a hurry
To rotate it takes 59 days
Mercury doesn’t tilt so it looks blurry

(Talk) For now….Mercury remains…

(fast) An airless place in the sky
A lonley world with no moons nearby
A ball of rock
Sitting and rotating high
